What a fabulous book!! Loved it! Heartwarming tale with a great spin on setting up a bookstore/bookshop in a small town.

This is a lovely book full of the story of Amy and Sara. Well it’s not really about Amy but the letters she wrote to Sara encouraging her to visit Broken Wheel, a small undistinguished declining town in Iowa. That’s where the fun begins!!

It did take a few chapters for the book to start flowing for me but lots of different quirky characters (like any small town) kept my interest. I particularly enjoyed the book recommendations – which sadly come towards the latter half of the novel – but add a humorous flavour to the book.

It wasn’t at all obvious that this novel was translated from Swedish but there were a couple of extraneous chapters which if removed could have helped speed up the story. Despite that, it was an engaging read, perfect for an avid book lover like me.

More about this book

Once you let a book into your life, the most unexpected things can happen…

Broken Wheel, Iowa, has never seen anyone like Sara, who traveled all the way from Sweden just to meet her pen pal, Amy. When she arrives, however, she finds that Amy’s funeral has just ended. Luckily, the townspeople are happy to look after their bewildered tourist—even if they don’t understand her peculiar need for books.

Marooned in a farm town that’s almost beyond repair, Sara starts a bookstore in honor of her friend’s memory. All she wants is to share the books she loves with the citizens of Broken Wheel and to convince them that reading is one of the great joys of life. But she makes some unconventional choices that could force a lot of secrets into the open and change things for everyone in town.

Reminiscent of The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, this is a warm, witty book about friendship, stories, and love.

My thanks to the publisher SOURCEBOOKS Landmark for an advance copy in exchange for a fair and honest review. The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend is published on 1st January 2016 and can be purchased from Amazon.

I am obsessed with books.  In fact, I'd rather be reading than doing anything else.   I enjoy trying out new books and new authors; I do like to "mix and match" genres.  I often have access to books before they are published and would welcome the opportunity to review most books... just not horror or sci-fi, please :)
